The video above paints a funny look on major and serious problem that's occuring here in the US.
Who's looking after our kids??
Have you looked at our playgrounds & schools lately?? Pretty scary and the facts back it up - the percentage of overweight children in the United States is growing at an alarming rate, with 1 out of 3 kids now considered overweight or obese.
Many kids are spending less time exercisingand more time in front of the TV, computer, or video-game console. And today's busy families have fewer free moments to prepare nutritious, home-cooked meals. From fast food to electronics, quick and easy is the reality for many people.
And the children are sent all kinds of mixed messages from television, the internet and magazines. The images they see are of profoundly “beautiful” people — thin, rich, and happy. These same “beautiful” people are frequently seen advertising candy, soft drinks, and fast food, which have little nutritional value.
These unhealthy foods and beverages are among the most-advertised products on childcare’s TV programs. Studies show a direct correlation between the number of hours spent watching television and the number of requests made from children to want the products they see advertised.
Not only are we getting fatter, but we are also getting more self-conscious about it, and this is being seen in children at a very young age - more and more girls, as young as 10 years old, are voicing dissatisfaction with their bodies and expressing a desire to be thinner
Preventing kids from becoming overweight means adapting the way your family eats and exercises, and how you spend time together. The kids are our future and how we teach them about health and wellness will decide their future - without our health what do we have??
We know how hard it is to make the tough choices when you have a pouty or crying child but making those choices early will make you and your child a stronger and healthier person.
Helping kids lead healthy lifestyles begins with parents who lead by example.
Our society needs to make many changes but as parents don't blame society for your kids being overweight. Take on the responsiblity - no matter how hard - of teaching your kids healthy lifestyles. Your life and your child's life depends on it!!
